This one was really fun to paint.  I only used black and white, and I love the look of it. It has a lot of texture, that you can't see in this photo.

The theme for today was "Nude."  My original thought was to paint an abstract with a nude color palette and nothing really resembling any particular object. I decided to challenge myself a bit, and attempt these abstract winter trees.  I really like the texture and color combination. Overall, I am happy with the feel of this first painting.

I took some fine art classes from Auburn University art department to keep my teaching certificate current.   Little did I know at the time, it was those art instructors  who would have a great impact on my art interest, style, and direction.

 One of the classes I took was on women's art history.  I learned about Frida Kahlo and have since loved her life story and her art work.

Her art inspired my choice of color palette for this small painting and mixed media metal star. 

I love the bold richness of the colors. Check back to see where this may lead.

House on the hill above Lake Washington - dads sail boat below at the marina.  August Seafair brings Blue Angels soaring high - hydroplane races on lake - view from front yard.

Chocolate Lab - Sampson loves swimming in the lake - and dog park up the street. Sleeping to patter of raindrops - waking up we walk to Seattle coffee houses.

 

I have four houses left to make in this series and I will be at my goal of 183 painted houses!  Yippee! 

I am excited to get ready for the show and hope you will follow my art journey with me.

Clay earth house on Thunderstorm Drive - Swamp cooler No good for El Paso sun.

Hummingbirds abound - fly to cactus flower - stick bugs delight daughters, scorpions, and black widow - watch out!

New friends on Starry Night Drive - playmates for daughters - artist friend - soul sisters... share backyard pool - fun parties - blender salsa - back yard summer art camps - tie dye in buckets of colored water.

A Little yellow house with Maizie's mountain in the backyard. New born baby - sister, Ciena cuddled in white bunting.  Rain rain go way...makes everything so green.

Family up the road, Lake Washington so near, and I can run on hills - pushing stroller with two daughters.

Kirkland, WA is the city I grew up in...it is where I call home.

Every new place we move for my husbands military work gets to be compared to Kirkland.  So far not one place can beat it!  Is this because of the beauty and wonderful place Kirkland is?  Or is this because this is were I grew up and it is home?
